When you open this newsletter, I will be on a beach in Nice, eating Socca and hiding out under a goofily large sunhat I purchased for the occasion. Last week I flew to Paris, where, by now, I’ll have spent a few days showing friends around, and then I’ll have absconded to Nice for a little side quest I planned for myself.
Last year, I spent two months solo traveling around France in the spring, and the only part of the trip I spent with friends was when I was in the South of France. I stayed with an old friend at his parents’ place in Villefranche-sur-Mer, and though we were spitting distance from Nice, we barely spent any time in the city, instead poking around the villages of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Èze, and Menton when we weren’t pretending it was warm enough to enjoy the rooftop pool at his Villefranche apartment.
So this time, I’m going all-in. My goal is to put together a proper Nice travel guide for you when I’m back. In the meantime, enjoy some of our recommendations for Nice hotels, Nice Airbnbs, and day trips from Nice. If you can’t make it there in person, you can at least make Kate Christensen’s Chickpea Pancake, called Socca.
In the meantime, until I get back: More soon & bisous!
Things I found on the Internet…
How different kinds of French people say “Bonjour.” Is it pretentious to pronounce foreign words correctly? And some of our favorite French idioms.
