Watch Paris’s Spectacular New Year’s Eve Fireworks

A cake with lit candles

At long last, 2018 is over, and 2019 has begun. You drank champagne, made resolutions you’ll break within the month, and probably sported a cheap tin foil tiara covered in glitter at some point in the night.

But the most memorable part of New Year’s is, of course, the countdown to the new year. While in the U.S. folks gather around the TV to watch the ball drop in Times Square, Parisians weren’t exactly sitting around twiddling their thumbs. As anyone who’s been to Bastille Day knows, the French do not mess around when it comes to fireworks. And this incredible display along the Champs-Élysées is no exception, with a countdown on the Arc de Triomphe, and a colorful blaze of lights to follow it.

Enjoy the fireworks, and a Happy New Year to all!
