MasterChef Canada Takes on the Challenge of the French Tarte aux Fruits

A close up of food on a plate

French foods are known to be tricky to make. But the elusive mastery French cooking is known for is most easily recognized in the art, the science, the wizardry of patisserie.

French pastries are no easy feat, which is why this MasterChef Canada baking challenge is so terrifying (yet delicious) to watch. Each chef has been asked to make a French fruit tart, a complicated pastry with three main components: a delicate, yet sturdy pastry crust; a layer of gooey vanilla cream; and a layer of several different types of fruit, painted with an apple glaze. The crust must be crispy but light, the fruit must be evenly sliced, and the custard must be flavorful. With so many ways to go wrong, you’ll be impressed by the mouthwatering tarts these chefs recreate in only 40 minutes.
