Watch Karl Lagerfeld’s Last Chanel Show

Though the director is gone, the show must go on.

Two weeks after the passing of Chanel’s Creative Director and fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection graced the runways of Paris Fashion Week. The set was a snowy Alpine village complete with 12 petite chalets, and the models looked dressed to go skiing — or, at least, do a photoshoot to sell ski resort timeshares. Dozens of Lagerfeld’s former muses, like Penelope Cruz and Cara Delevingne, made their walk in his last designs, while hundreds of models wept in their seats over their lost idol.

“I think what I really enjoy is the elegance he brings to the world,” said supermodel and Chanel darling Caroline de Maigret. And Maigret is right. Even in death, Lagerfeld was able to bring one last perfect hour of elegance to the world. And considering a legacy like his, that hour will stretch on for centuries to come.
