Americans Try French Cheeses

A man sitting at a table

Brie, chèvre, camembert. Americans know those French cheeses and like them. However, these French cheeses that Americans buy at Trader Joe’s and Costco are actually “French” cheeses. They might have similar ingredients, but the process for making them is so different, that the taste of these cheese in France can be quite different from the taste of these American-made cheeses. How different? Dramatically different, perhaps so different… that you don’t actually like camembert at all.

So do Americans actually like the real French brie, chèvre, and camembert, that they thought they knew and loved? What about morbier, fourme d’Ambert, or reblochon? The truth is, Americans don’t know French cheeses, we only know “French” cheese.

Watch what happens when Americans finally get a taste of some real French cheese.
