Anyone Who’s Been to a French Restaurant Can Relate to this Key & Peele Sketch

We’ve all been there: you’re trying to impress someone, you get a little overconfident, next thing you know, you’re whipping out the French.

Ah, mais… heed caution. This hilarious video by American comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele shows exactly what can happen if someone lets their desire to seem worldly get in the way of them actually learning about a culture or its language. Peele plays a poor man showing off his French skills on a date, while Key is the French waiter whose gibberish “French” stumps the attempted suitor.

Made famous by their Comedy Central show Key & Peele, the two comedians are known for bits like Wendall and Obama’s Anger Translator. Though the show has been off the air since 2015, Comedy Central has been making fans nostalgic by re-releasing classic sketches like this one.
