Giving D.C. locals the break from politics they so badly need, Pénélope Bagieu will be meeting her fans in Washington. The author and comic book illustrator will be at l’Alliance Française on Thursday, September 21st at 7pm.

The New York-residing Parisian is best known for her blog “Ma vie est tout à fait fascinante,” illustrating the struggles and excitment of girlhood and adolescence in adorable and funny comics, and her book Joséphine, published in 2008 and adapted into a film in 2013. Bagieu will be presenting her most recent project, California Dreamin’, a comic book which tells the story of Ellen, a girl with a full, beautiful singing voice who wants to make it big in New York. The discussion will take place in English.

Bagieu is a feminist, all for the equality of sexes especially when it comes to accomplished women. Her book Culottée contains illustrated profiles of 30 women who went beyond society’s imposed limits on their gender to achieve bigger, greater things. The first volume came out in 2016, the second in 2017.
