What Opening Night at the Opéra de Paris Looks Like

We’ve all dreamed of a night at the opera à la Tolstoy, with everyone dressed to the max and busybodies using their opera glass more to look at people than the performance. But this Chanel video will give you a peek at what that might really look like.

Chanel sponsored the opening gala of the dance season at the Opéra de Paris, a star-studded event with Chanel ambassadors like Gabrielle cover girl Keira Knightly, actress Marion Cotillard, and model Caroline de Maigret. The creative director for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, even designed the costumes of the two modern dancers shown in the video (as well as many of the outfits on display worn by audience members). And this isn’t a surprising collaboration, given Coco Chanel’s origins designing costumes for the Ballet Russes, courtesy of her acquaintanceships with composer Igor Stravinsky.

In all, this event is a wonder to behold, a unique experience that calls to mind the inimitable artistry of Paris, Chanel, and the Opéra.
