Rouje founder and French It-Girl Jeanne Damas sat down with Vogue Paris recently to talk about the people who inspire her the most.

Her childhood icon? The aptly-named Jeanne Moreau, the French actress who rose to prominence in the 1960s in films like Elevator to the Gallows and François Truffaut’s Jules et Jim. Another cinema reference she drops are the films of Pedro Almodóvar and their garish color motifs and wacky patterns. She gives a lot of love to Jean Paul Gaultier as well, saying, “Everything about him is iconic… I like him because there has always been this simplicity about him, the guy from the suburbs who has really kept his values…” Other favorites include model Lauren Hutton, the Gainsbourgs, and Jacquemus.

She ends the interview on a positive note: when asked to name her favorite decade, she looks ahead to the 2020s and 2030s. “I think that after these lockdowns and strange years, there will be rebellious generations that will do a lot of good things.”
