[Sponsored Post] Vaux-le-Vicomte—a family estate and a celebrated center of lavish festivities in the era of Nicolas Fouquet—invites guests to step back in time to the age of the Sun King and the great artists of the Grand Siècle. Each year, thousands of costumed participants and curious onlookers gather at the château gates, dressed in their finest attire—often handmade—to experience a day at a 17th-century royal court in the enchanting setting of the palace that inspired the Château de Versailles.
Where History Becomes a Living Spectacle
The idea was born some twenty years ago with the goal of creating a fully immersive visitor experience, allowing guests not only to attend, but to take part in the day by embodying a character of the era.
Wearing a costume is not mandatory. Many visitors simply come to admire the spectacle and photograph the elegantly dressed participants against this extraordinary backdrop.
The first attendees were already seasoned costume enthusiasts, particularly from Venice’s historic masquerade tradition. They were soon joined by costume associations dedicated to historical dress. Over time, the Grand Siècle Gala has become France’s premier gathering for enthusiasts of 17th- and 18th-century costume.
The event also inspires newcomers to discover the art of historical dress. Guests may rent a costume on site to join the festivities—perhaps sparking a passion to create their own in the future.

Event Highlights
For early arrivals, tradition calls for bringing a chic picnic to enjoy on the garden lawns or beneath shaded its groves, sharing a convivial moment in true French style.

The “After Prestige” – For Grand Siècle Ambassadors
For costumed guests seeking an elevated experience, the Château honors its most dedicated enthusiasts with an exclusive “After Prestige” to close the evening in style.
Welcomed at 9:30 p.m. at the gates of the Cour d’Honneur, marquises, dukes, and fellow elegantly-attired guests are invited to enjoy an intimate gathering inside the Château and on the South Terrace, specially privatized for the occasion.
The evening includes a sparkling wine bar, refined refreshments, baroque dance lessons with Irène Feste, discoveries of period cosmetics and games, musical interludes, and more. Ambassadors will also enjoy the privilege of viewing the 11:00 p.m. fireworks display from the Château’s private South Terrace.

Vaux-le-Vicomte & Versailles: A Grand Costumed Weekend
The May 23rd date for the Grand Siècle Gala at Vaux-le-Vicomte is no coincidence. On Monday, May 25th, the nearby Château de Versailles hosts its own celebrated costumed event, the Fêtes Galantes.
Together, these two exceptional château celebrations create a unique opportunity for international and long-distance travelers to experience two of France’s most iconic historic estates in a single, unforgettable weekend of pageantry and elegance.
