Between two places, you can always expect there to be some kind of cultural gap in knowledge and customs. But according to Google, Americans and French people seem to be staring at each other from across a Grand Canyon.

This video dives into the American psyche using the most unapologetically honest tool available: their search history. Some of the most frequently asked questions about France might shock you, including, but not limited to: Does France have a king? Do French people shave? And—here’s the kicker—Is France a country?

Instead of letting Google give us all the answers, French people have stepped in to give their best explanations for these bizarre questions. Some funny, some serious, and most incredulous, their answers appear to say just as much about France as their prompts say about the U.S.
