I have often joked that Emily in Paris is a terrible show, and I hope it runs for a thousand seasons. Well, it appears that my letter to Santa (aka Darren Star) got lost in the mail, as Netflix has just announced that the forthcoming Season 6 is to be the fantastical Frenglish comedy’s last.
“Making ‘Emily in Paris’ with this extraordinary cast and crew has been the trip of a lifetime,” Star, the series creator, said. “As we embark on the final season, I am so grateful to Netflix, Paramount, and, most importantly, the fans who have taken this incredible journey with us. We can’t wait to share this last chapter with you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris. We will always have ‘Emily in Paris!’”
Lily Collins, who plays the show’s titular American abroad, took to Netflix’s Instagram to share the news: “Season 6 will bring you everything you love about the show, and serve as the final chapter of Emily’s adventure of a lifetime… I can’t wait for all of the magic ahead, and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet.”
Emily in Paris Season 6 Release Date & Filming
The final season of Emily in Paris is currently filming in Greece, where there is much to imply a reunion of Emily and her on-again-off-again beau, Chef Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo). Monaco will also feature in the new season, as well as Paris, of course, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, and Bruno Gouery will reprise their roles alongside Collins and Bravo. A release date has not yet been announced, though it will likely follow the show’s previous seasons with a December release.
The show has remained as popular as it has controversial since its debut in 2020, when its first season was bolstered by a lockdown-fueled desire for armchair traveling. Despite its heavy-handed clichés about France and the insufferable Pollyanna-ish-ness of its main character, Emily in Paris has been undeniably influential, with Star even receiving the French Legion of Honor from President Emmanuel Macron for his work highlighting France.
Who’s to say what will happen in this singular show’s final season? Will Emily and Gabriel finally end up together? Will she inevitably have to confront what must be an increasingly complicated visa situation and head back to America? Will Alfie break up Mindy’s engagement? Will we get more Minnie Driver as a delusional European Princess? (Man, I hope so.) Whatever happens, though, I know I’ll be watching.
