She is the first woman in the United States to win three Michelin stars, and she’s French. The famous Michelin guide has awarded its supreme award to Breton chef Dominique Crenn for her restaurant L’Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, which until now had two stars. The culinary guide revealed its 2019 selection on November 29.

“The current menu displays a wonderful balance of grace, artistry, technical ability and taste; inspectors consistently experienced a top-quality experience across numerous visits,” noted Michelin.

Born in France in Locronan, in the Finistère region, Crenn, 53, inherited her passion for cooking from her parents. She began her career in a prestigious hotel in Jarkarta but mainly gained mastered her skills in California. Her training began in 1988 in San Francisco, the city she chose to open several restaurants, including Atelier Crenn and Bar Crenn. The latter also won a Michelin star in the 2019 edition of the guide.

Opened in 2011, Atelier Crenn is not the only new establishment to win three stars in 2019: SingleThread also climbs into the ranks this very exclusive club to join Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry. See all the ranking below.
