Gitchy gitchy ya ya da da!

“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” has been dazzling Broadway critics and theatre goers since its opening this past Thursday, July 25. The wild and fantastical show, which draws inspiration from the 2011 Baz Luhrmann film “Moulin Rouge!” about the legendary Paris cabaret of the same name, is directed by Alex Timbers and stars Karen Olivo, Aaron Tveit, and Danny Burstein.

The stage is set in Paris during the turn of the 19th century when the fresh-faced Christian has just arrived from Lima, Ohio. He is struck by the Moulin Rouge nightclub singer and pleasure-seeker, Satine, who Olivo plays as a real woman finding ways to cover up her hard-lived past — a performance the New York Times claims “sends her into the constellation of great musical actresses.” Satine and Christian’s love story unfolds by means of 70 hits from the past several decades, which bring the audience to back to their own first love stories through youthful anthems. Mashups of Madonna and Beyoncé liven the show that balances glitz, glamour, and the honest reality of life and love. The music is enchanting, the plot, though tried, still rings true, and in the Moulin Rouge, “life is beautiful, in a way reality never is.”

Treat yourself to a spectacular, seemingly endless evening of nostalgia, reminiscing and fabulous performances. You can find tickets here.
