The 2021 Green Card Lottery (diversity visa lottery, or DV-Lottery) will be open from October 2, 2019 at noon (EDT) to November 5, 2019 at noon (EDT), according to the U.S. State Department. This lottery will be accessible on the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website.
Once again, beware of scams. The DV-Lottery is free of charge. There is only one official site to participate: the Department of State website (listed above and in the “learn more” box). Any site that asks for money to register or promises a green card is a scam.
To participate, you must be a national of one of the eligible countries or be married to a citizen of one of these countries. (France is one of the eligible countries.) Other conditions: have a high school diploma or have worked for two of the last five years in a professional activity that requires at least two years of training. Candidates will then be asked to enter some basic information (such as name and date of birth) and a passport photo. New this year: you will also need to provide your passport number, the country of issue and the expiration date of the passport.
Multiple registrations will be automatically deleted.
