“Here we’re all worried that they’re going to elect some madman who will nuke us!”
It’s said in jest, but it’s obvious that the French, and the rest of the world, are not taking the U.S. presidential election as a joke. Even if they think Republican nominee Donald Trump is a clown.
What must the madness of this election look like to the rest of the world? Sure, some of it seems funny, like that time everyone thought Republican candidate Ted Cruz was the Zodiac Killer, or when that bird landed on Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders’ podium and everyone kept talking about “Birdie Sanders.” But now that Election Day is a mere 8 days away, everything feels a bit more dire, even all the way in France.
When asked if the election will effect their own lives, most French people are quick to say “Of course!” and also quick to denounce Trump for his racism, misogyny and xenophobia,.
