Upbeat and Retro, Swing with French-American Ginkgoa in NYC

A group of people wearing costumes

Want to swing to a singer who dances too, and a real band that can rock a clarinet, guitar, piano, bass and drum set like nobody’s business? Fresh off appearances at the Festival International de Jazz in Montreal (see clips from their July 4th concert here), Ginkgoa is coming to New York. Get on your feet, because their concerts are not for the sitting-and-sipping crowd.

Ginkgoa’s website tells the story of New Yorker Nicolle Rochelle and Frenchman Antoine Chatenet who’ve been playing together since 2010. They met by chance in a Paris jazz club after Rochelle had already discovered Chatenet’s music online, and they’ve set out to create “American songs with a French touch.”

The sounds of Ginkgoa may make you remember the 90s swing revival in the US but with some swanky updates. Rochelle sings in French and, along with her band mates, is a true performer. You’re sure to see these seasoned musicians moving energetically around the stage as they take you “De New York à Paris”– and back again.
