No one was expecting Donald Trump’s visit to France to be scandal-free, but it definitely could have gone a bit better than it did.
His first of several faux pas was commenting on the appearance of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron. (“You’re in such good shape,” said Trump to Brigitte. Then, to Macron, “She’s in such great shape. Beautiful.”) Then, there was the whole thing where he spent a couple minutes during the joint press conference with Emmanuel Macron, defending Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting, and possible collusion, with a Russian official.
Add that to Trump’s total lack of amusement during the Daft Punk medley at the Bastille Day military parade, and the 25-second departing handshake, and it definitely was an eventful trip.
