A Franco-Caribbean Restaurant’s Desperate Call for Help

A restaurant owner facing desperate times is sending out a distress call. Gérald Huteau is looking for funds in order to save his French restaurant “La Mulâtresse”, located in Harlem. He has launched this campaign on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo.

In July, French Morning reported on this restaurant owner’s multiple setbacks in the quest to fulfill his dream of opening a restaurant in New York. Shortly after its opening, this franco-caribbean eatery was bogged down by a series of  misfortunes (faulty equipment, water damage, damage to the basement’s metallic doors…). The restaurant was forced to close down in order to carry out much needed repair work but now lacks the funds to reopen.

In his pitch on Indiegogo, Gérald Huteau recounts how he has tried to seek help from multiple banks to no avail. “I do not want to give up. I believe in our project because we were beginning to have an increasing number of customers” writes Huteau. “We have invested 150.000 dollars in our business and very soon, if we are unable to collect enough resources, we will be forced to give up.”
