Iris Mittenaere, winner of Miss France 2016 pageant and current Miss Universe 2016 contestant, is studying dentistry, along with her hobby of cooking with Michelin star chefs, and hoping to help France take home the Miss Universe crown for the first time since 1953.
Whether or not you’re a fan of the strange thing that is beauty pageants, Mittenaere presents herself as a hard worker and someone who loves life, especially Paris. Although she was born in Lille, France, Mittenaere has since moved to Paris and fallen in love with the city, something we can all relate to. Whether it’s eating French food, looking at art in the many Parisian museums, or strolling around the city to see the iconic sights, Mittenaere obviously has pride for her country and its history and culture.
And while beauty pageants have been thought to perpetuate body shaming and the objectification of women, they have also been occasionally considered empowering.
