Even though Donald Trump has planned a trip to France for Bastille Day, France’s new President Emmanuel Macron has no intention of calling a ceasefire on the environmental rights battle between the two world leaders.
Last week, Macron backed a push for a global environmental pact despite Trump’s dismissal of the Paris Climate Agreement. At a meeting at the Sorbonne in Paris, attended by environmental activists and leaders such as former California governor turned green activist Arnold Schwarzenegger and former United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon, Macron pledged to do everything he could so that there could be a world environmental pact drafted by September.
It’s a lot to pledge for a new president, but if there’s anything we’ve learned from Macron so far, it’s that he’s not about to back down on his decision to “make the planet great again.”
