Going in the opposite direction of American president Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to go beyond the Paris Climate Accord in a meeting with new French President Emmanuel Macron last week.
“We will work together with the others, cooperate with the others, and together we will leave a present for the coming generations,” said Modi in the press briefing at the Elysée Palace.
It was probably a smart move, given how Macron bashed Trump after he announced his decision for the United States to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord. That combined with the gripping handshake Macron gave Trump during the NATO summit, gives me the idea that Macron is presenting himself as a president who is not to be intimidated.
But Modi’s relationship with Macron seems to be off to a good start. (Although not as good as the Trudeau bromance we saw a couple weeks ago.)
