Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen emerged as the top two winners in the first round of the election last Sunday April 23rd. While Macron won the most votes, his total vote count was the lowest of any first round winner since 2002, showing the deep divisions in France’s electorate.
After the results came out, Le Pen and Macron were quick to address their voters and share their plans to win in the final round on May 7.
While the polls suggest Macron will beat Le Pen, the leader of the far-right Front National (National Front) is not going to give up so easily.
“He is a hysterical radical Europeanist,” said Le Pen of Macron. “He is for total open borders. He says there is no such thing as French culture. There is not one domain where he shows one ounce of patriotism.”
Shots. Fired.
