Listen to This Innovative Diam’s Cover on France’s “The Voice”

Covering the greatest female French rapper of all time? Challenging. Doing it for a blind-audition for France’s “The Voice”? Downright impressive.

And these girls pulled it off. French trio J.A.T. (Just Another Trio) is comprised of the lovely ladies Ayélya, Sarah, and Annabelle. Their blind-audition this Saturday resulted in the girls getting three offers from panel judges to lead them to a hoped-for victory, quite a feat for the French spinoff of the popular American talent competition show.

The song is “La Boulette” (The Moron), an aggressive and challenging tune from Diam’s, a French-Greek rapper famous for her activism and controversial public persona. Following her diamond status album Dans Ma Bulle in 2006, Diam’s suffered a mental breakdown and checked into a psychiatric facility. She later converted to Islam and now appears in public wearing a hijab. Fans have been waiting a decade for a new album, but for now we will simply have to settle for this wonderful cover from J.A.T.
