Jerry Seinfeld Opens for Gad Elmaleh

Gad Elmaleh’s been called the “French Jerry Seinfeld,” and on Thursday night, the American Gad Elmaleh opened for the French-Moroccan comic at Joe’s Pub in New York City.

Seinfeld did a short set before Elmaleh’s show, surprising the audience, who had been expecting a less famous follow-up to opener Harrison Greenbaum.

But the surprise appearance perhaps shouldn’t have come as such—Elmaleh appears on Seinfeld’s webseries Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, puttering lazily around New York in a 1950 Citroën 2CV “Deux Cheveaux” at a roaring top speed of 20mph; he also did the French dubbing for Seinfeld’s character in Bee Movie, the movie you say when you’re actually thinking of Antz, except the movie you really meant is A Bug’s Life.
