It’s early October but it’s not too late to get outside. Jardins Ouverts invites anyone in the Île-de-France region to enjoy the incredible French gardens around them on the weekend of October 5 and 6.

Last year’s 400 events attracted 45,000 visitors to some 170 gardens. This year, 200 gardens will be open to the public to visit for free (note that not all event are free). Gardens of all kinds — historic, community, farming, co-op, educational, private — and urban farms will emphasize this year’s theme of vegetable garden (the same as last year), to encourage les français to eat local and find their own green thumbs.

On the activities side, take a yoga and essential oils course on a rooftop garden, visit Renoir’s gardens, get a guided tour of the Jardin du Palais-Royal, enjoy a garden party pétanque tournament, visit the gardens of the beautiful Domaine de Méréville just outside the city, and learn how to become an urban gardener. (See the full agenda of events here.)
