From the 6th of August through to the 16th, the Sydney Theatre Company will be performing “Les Bonnes” (The Maids) a play written by Jean Genet in 1947. Performed at the Lincoln Center, the play is inspired by the “Papin affair”, a sordid double murder.
Starring Isabelle Huppert and Cate Blanchett as Claire and Solange Papin, the two sisters made famous by their carrying out of the double murder of their employer and her daughter.
Elizabeth Debicki will portray the cold matron and the play is directed by talented Australian director Benedict Andrews, known in part for his take on “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams.
What is more, the play will be entirely in English, a plus for us francophiles!
