For a moment on Monday night, Emma Watson really was Belle.

At Lincoln Center’s Beale Theatre in New York, Watson took the stage in a golden straw yellow gown to read to children at event with the New York Film Society. It makes sense she would be promoting reading: Watson plays Belle in the record-breaking film Beauty and the Beastwhich is a live action remake of the classic animated Disney film and the French fairy tale La Belle et la Bête.

Watson herself loves to read and has been spotted leaving books around both the London Underground and the New York Subway. She also loves Dior, often wearing their most classic and elegant designs. Apparently, she loved her Belle gown so much, she asked Dior to make her one. “It was a special request from Emma Watson,” explains a seamstress in the Dior atelier.

Watch how Dior made the gown special for Watson, and get a glimpse of the process of making a Dior creation.
