Twitter was, well, a-twitter with reports of a meteorite blazing across the night sky in the vicinity of Grenoble.
Hundreds of people reported seeing the fireball—some who thought it was an errant firework—and video from a snowy rugby competition in Valmorel shows the blaze streaking past the mountains of the resort.
The meteorite was later seen from Genoa and Venice, keeping strictly to its easterly direction.
French Morning would like to remind its readers that, even though most press accounts are referring to the object as a “meteorite,” until it made verified contact with the Earth itself, it’s just a meteor.
