You don’t know French rock unless you know M.
The French rocker and guitarist Matthieu Chedid’s alter ego, M, has been wearing his hair slicked up in the shape of an M since the late 90’s, coolly rocking out in an alternate universe of flamboyantly dressed superheroes and making all of France (and the rest of the world) love him.
Behind the crazy alter ego and dramatic music videos is Chedid, a talented musician who can really (I mean really) play the guitar in a way that makes you wish that indie music never became cool. There’s nothing like some good old rock music.
In case you don’t know what I mean about the goodness of rock music, Chedid will be educating New York City in the ways of -M- when he performs this Saturday, October 1st at Vieilles Charrues, a French music festival which started as a small music fair in Brittany. Vieilles Charrrues is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a host of famous French artists performing at a special one-day event in Central Park.
Get a taste of M in one of his more recent music videos, for the song “Mojo”:
