Get your French flix fix with French Film Festival USA

A man and a woman looking at the camera

Hungry for French cinema? Perhaps watching Cannes from afar has made you yearn for some big-screen love from across the pond? If you live in on of 10 American cities, including Dallas, Los Angeles or New York, then you’re in luck! For the first time ever, UniFrance is launching “The French Film Festival USA” showcasing six French films from June 2nd to 5th with additional dates to be announced soon.

Here’s the lineup:

Tour de Force (La Grande Boucle): Laid off by his boss, left by his wife, but passionate about the Tour de France, François leaves to take part in the Grande Boucle a day ahead of the pros. Starting alone, he is soon joined by others inspired by his challenges.

Little Lion (Comme un lion): 15-year-old Mitri lives in a village in Senegal and dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. When a recruiter spots him, Mitri believes that he has a shot. But in order to get into the big European teams, you have to pay. His family goes into debt in order to help him, but this is only the beginning of the nightmare that continues to unfold for him in Paris.

Jappeloup: At the beginning of the 1980s, Pierre Durand abandoned his rather promising career as a lawyer in order to dedicate himself completely to his passion: show jumping. Supported by his father, he bets everything on a young horse called Jappeloup that no one truly believes in.

It Boy (20 ans d’écart): At 38, Alice Lantins is beautiful, ambitious, and so dedicated to her career that she forgets her personal life. She has all the qualifications to become the next editor-in-chief at Rebelle magazine, but it seems her own rigor that results in an uptight image might do her in. That is, until the young, charming, barely 20-year-old Balthazar crosses her path. Realizing that he holds the key to her promotion, Alice undertakes the most improbable idyll of a comedy.

A Monkey on My Shoulder (A coeur ouvert): Married for ten years, Mila and Javier have two passions: love and career. Both of them are surgeons. When Mila becomes unexpectedly pregnant, the thought of having a child throws off the balance of their relationship and Javier’s penchant for alcohol soon becomes a problem.

Under the Rainbow (Au bout du conte): A fairy tale with a young woman who believes in destiny, love at first sight and coincidence and who dreams of becoming an actress and is desperate to get there one day; and a young man who confidence in his ability to write songs but not in himself.
