Everyone wants French friends: their accents are soothing, they never look like cannibals when they eat, and they exude culture (which you hope to absorb through osmosis.) French Morning’s Speak Easy, an evening of bilingual speed-talking, will set you up with the English-speaking French friends you’ve always wanted.

Speak Easy is very similar to speed-dating in both structure and purpose. Once everyone has a glass of wine (i.e. a foreign language lubricant) native French and English speakers are put into pairs and seated around the restaurant. Pairs will talk in French about everything and anything for seven minutes, and then in English for another seven minutes. When time is up, everyone trades partners and the process restarts. By the end of the evening, everyone will have kindled the beginnings of five Franco-American friendships.

The next Speak Easy is on Monday, September 12^th from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Madison Bistro. You must be able to speak French and English at a conversational level to attend. If you are at that level, don’t let the language barrier anxiety keep you home. Speak Easy is both a learning and social experience. Tickets are available for purchase here.
