What can you do with a chainsaw and five blocks of ice?
Well, if you’re an internationally acclaimed ice sculptor, then you can travel to Valloire, France and compete in the International Ice Sculpting Contest.
Valloire, a commune located in the Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a beautiful winter wonderland this time of year, and the perfect location for an ice sculpting contest. This year marks the 26th anniversary of Valloire’s ice sculpting competition, which hosts sculptor’s from eleven countries, including Mexico, the Philippines, Russia and more. Each sculptor is allowed five huge blocks of ice, which they then transform into beautiful works of art.
It’s definitely as hard as it seems. Ice is a material which is always changing depending on the temperature of the air and the weather, but these sculptors know what they’re doing.
