Do You Know These French Slang Terms?

It’s hard enough to stay hip with the kids in your own language, but trying to sound au courant in another is practically a recipe for disaster. Luckily, the travel and language channel TheUrbanEve is here to help you catch up on what’s hot in the world of French language.

One thing you might notice is that there are a lot of ways to say “I don’t like something” or “that’s annoying” or “that makes me angry.” Vénère (the verlan of énervé), relou (the verlan of lourd), and péter un cable among them. A particularly trendy one is avoir le seum, a phrase derived from the Arabic word for poison. For some chiller vibes, use au calme (or OKLM when texing), or decide to faire ta vie. And for everything in between, use genre, en mode, or bref for your requisite French filler words.

If you’re feeling confident with your new vocab words and ready to learn a few more, check out another one of Eve’s videos for more essential French slang.
