A Day on the Farm: Celebrating 10 Years of French Morning

A view of a city at night

Break out the party hats, because this year French Morning celebrates its 10th birthday. To kick off several months of festivities, we’re hosting A Day on the Farm—in the middle of New York. Amidst the skyscrapers and crops, we’ll be toasting to the l’art de vivre that the French do so well, by eating and drinking among friends.

This mythical urban farm we speak of is North Brooklyn Farms, located in Williamsburg on the shore of the East River. We’ve planned for a day (and night) of “farm to table”, where the farm and the table are in one place. Good food, plenty of drinks, live music, and activities for all ages are on the agenda. During the event, 10 chefs classified as Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (Master Chefs) and from l’Académie culinaire (the Culinary Academy) will be on site whipping up gourmet concoctions for a picnic feast, and then a dinner under the stars.

Come as a family, as friends, or as a foodie for the first part of the day from noon to 5:00pm. The cost of the ticket ($10) gets you five dégustations (tasting bites) prepared by the 10 chefs on site, in partnership with the Maîtres Culinaires de France and l’Académie culinaire. Drinks will also be available for purchase at the bar, and food will be available for purchase as well.

Each of the 10 chefs will have their own stand to offer you a variety of samples to choose from. The chefs present will be:

Claude Godard (Madison Bistro)
Luc Holié (Jubilée)
Pierre Landet (Félix)
Pascal Petiteau (Bistro Vendôme)
Eric Girerd (L’Atelier du Chocolat)
Jean-Jacques Bernat (Provence en Boîte)
Hervé Malivert (International Culinary Center)
Florian Bellanger (Mad Mac)
Laurent Dupal (Ceci Cela)
Chef Conrad (White Toque)

This party isn’t just for food though, it’s also about music. We’ve assembled all the French musicians and groups in New York to participate in a competition at the farm. The grand prize at this friendly battle of the bands: a slot of the beginning of a large musical event this fall featuring notable French artists, organized by French Morning.

If music and food don’t entice you, we’ve planned activities all day long, including a pétanque tournament among a few other surprises.

In the evening from 6-10pm, we’ll throw down the white tablecloths for a gala under the stars. Guests will first enjoy the sun setting over the Manhattan skyline, a glass of wine in hand. Then, the stars come out and the twinkle lights go on for our culinary star of the night: chef, owner, and culinary director of Atrium DUMBO, Laurent Kalkotour. Kalkotour will prepare a gourmet, farm-to-table tasting menu.
