The Los Angeles Press club has announced in a press release that Charlie Hebdo will recieve the 2015 Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism.
The prize is named after Daniel Pearl, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, who was assasinated in by Al Queada in Pakistan in 2002. His parents, Ruth and Judea Pearl, will award the prize in a ceremony scheduled to take place on June 28th at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
“The brave hearts of Charlie Hebdo have been protecting our freedoms for several decades — alone, it is now our duty to protect their vision for generations to come — together. The Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism symbolizes this commitment,” said Judea and Ruth Pearl in a joint statement.
Past recipients of the Daniel Pearl prize include Bob Woodruff, Ana Politkovskaya and Richard Engel.
