It has become a must for families who want their children to have a bilingual education — and anyone interested in multilingualism. The 2nd Annual San Francisco Bilingual Education Fair, hosted by French Morning, is being held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Le Méridien San Francisco. Tickets are available for $5 until November 3rd, on an Early Bird special.

All together more than 50 exhibitors will be there, representing six languages. Schools, extracurricular activities, after-school programs, booksellers, and publishers will all be there to answer your questions about navigating the growing number of bilingual education opportunities (list of exhibitors here). On the French side, all the schools with bilingual opportunities in the San Francisco area will be there, public, private, or charter. This is the opportunity to ask all your questions in one place, before embarking on the more impersonal open house tours.

We are offering our essay competition again this year, open to middle and high school students. Last year, more than 150 participants sent in their essays. The competition is open to all students, whether or not they are enrolled in a bilingual program, and regardless of their school (private, public, charter, etc.). The essays are submitted in English only and must answer the following essay question:

For Middle School students: How has being bilingual affected your life?

For High School students: How has being bilingual affected your life? How will being bilingual affect the rest of your life?

The awards ceremony will take place during the fair on November 17th. The winners will receive a check for themselves (up to $200 in the High School category) and also for their school. (More information and submit your essay before October 15 here).

Regarding the speakers, we will be hosting a talk by the Lifespan Cognitive Development Lab of York University, on “Advantages of Bilingualism”, as well as many other interesting panels.

The San Francisco Bilingual Education Fair is supported by the Lycée Français de San Francisco and French Bee (lead sponsors), as well as the French American International School, the Consulate General of France, the Consulate General of Italy, and Lunii.
