Christophe Michalak is one of France’s favorite pastry chefs, with his star position at the Plaza Athénée, a recurring role as judge on a TV pastry competition, and a myriad of other projects. But as if all that wasn’t enough, Michalak has opened an innovative space just over a year ago right in the center of Paris.
Part cooking school, part shop, Michalak Takeaway is a funky hybrid where would-be chefs can learn to create Michalak’s picture-perfect cakes, or simply buy one to feast on at home. A feast it is, both for the eyes and the palate: signature Fantastik cakes (everything on offer has the letter K in it, a nod to the chef’s name) are round, colorful, playful yet undoubtedly elegant. As for flavors, the cakes definitely don’t disappoint, with delicate blends of orange, passion fruit and polenta or lemon and hazelnut. Flavors change every day, making sure you have a good excuse to go back for more.
If bringing home a full-sized cake isn’t on your list, don’t fret: among the individual cakes, chocolate, and indulgent spreads, there’s no doubt you’ll find something that hits the spot. Once you’ve had a taste, recreate it by booking a class – and creating your very own picturesque dessert.
