Unofficially dubbed “Little Paris”, Carroll Gardens eagerly anticipates the arrival of French and Francophile Brooklynites looking to celebrate Bastille Day. On Sunday, July 10th, the restaurant Bar Tabac (128 Smith Street) hosts their annual pétanque tournament right down the middle of Restaurant Row. For $45, teams of three can sign up to show off their ball-busting skills from 11.30am. For the less sportifs, other festivities include live music, food stands, raffles, and plenty of alcohol.

Just a few blocks south, Provence en Boite (263 Smith Street) will also be hosting a pétanque tournament on Degraw Street. Additional tables will be set up to bear the weight of ever-flowing rosé. Sign up must be done in person at the restaurant before the tournament begins.

Ample space to swing a Pétanque boule

If you need a trial run to practice your skills, La Defense (2 MetroTech Center), will ALSO be hosting a pétanque tournament on Saturday, July 9th from 10:30am. With DJs and a full service outdoor dining patio, complete with oyster bar, guests are encouraged to stay long and imbibe often. Sign up is $45 / 3 at the restaurant before the tournament.
