Birds of a Feather Flock Together at Givenchy’s Paris Fashion Week Show

A group of people wearing costumes

One if by land, two if by sea, and a whole lot from the sky, seemed to be the theme of this season’s Givenchy haute couture line.

Those who keep an eye out for such things have been carefully watching the trajectory of Clare Waight Keller, who took over as Givenchy’s artistic director in 2017, the first woman to ever hold the position. Despite Keller’s impeccable tailoring and an almost religious adherence to the historic design principles of the fashion house, many have been waiting for the designer to finally open up and let her freak flag fly. And fly it did at this week’s Paris Fashion Show haute couture runway, with a collection decked out in so many feathers it’s surprising PETA hasn’t launched a full-on raid. Keller described the woman she was aiming to represent as a “bird woman trapped in the house.”

Well, this bird woman isn’t trapped any longer. And neither is Keller, who seems to be finding her own wings this season.
