Pick up your pens! Like last year, Frenchly and French Morning are organizing an essay contest on bilingualism as part of the Bilingual Education Fair on November 17 at Le Meridien in San Francisco.
The contest is open to all bilingual middle and high school students (7th-11th Grade) in the San Francisco Bay Area, no matter what kind of school they attend (bilingual, monolingual, a bilingual program, charter school, magnet school, private school, boarding school, etc.).
French does not need to be one of the languages spoken by the student to participate. The contest is open to all bilinguals, whether they speak Mandarin, Italian, Bengali, Finnish, Hindi, Russian, or Swahili — all are welcome.
The winners will be announced and recognized at the Bilingual Fair on November 17th.
Essays must be written in English. All essays must be submitted here before October 15.
ESSAY CONTEST
Essay Question:
– Middle school students: “How has being bilingual affected your life?”
– High school students: “How has being bilingual affected your life? How will bilingualism affect the rest of your life?”
Length Requirement:
7th-8th graders (Middle School), 300-350 words
9th-11th graders (High School), 450-500 words
Prizes:
High School
1st: $200 for the student and $125 for their school
2nd: $100 for the student and $50 for their school
3rd: $50 for the student
Middle School
1st: $100 for the student and $50 for the school
2nd: $50 for the student and $25 for the school
3rd: $25 for the student
Submission:
Essays must be written in English. All essays must be submitted here before October 15.
