Olivier Rousteing’s latest spring/summer collection for Balmain shed the structure and strength of previous collections and showed the softer side of fashion. With a live orchestra playing in the background, models walked out of a jungle-like garden set wearing soft, flowing wrap dresses and jump suits.
In the show notes, Rousteing said, “the calmness of today’s garden runway reflects the spirit of a new age.”
The “calmness” showed up not only in the garden setting and the instrumental music, but also in the clothes as well.
Donned in silk and suede, the colors of Rousteing’s collection were not the typical pastels one associates with spring, but instead emerald greens, subdued oranges, and dusty rose pinks promenaded past. There was the occasional bit of sparkle, but for the most part the clothing was soft and serene.
Of course, Kim K was there, who is known for loving and living in Rousteing’s designs, but the most notable model of the moment was Gigi Hadid, who closed the show in a shimmering gold and silver dress.
