7 French Language Summer Camps in Los Angeles

Spring has just arrived and yet you should already be thinking about planning your summer vacation. As every year, Frenchly assembles a list of the French-speaking summer camps in Los Angeles. Registrations are open now.

1. Le Lycée Français 

The Lycée Français de Los Angeles campus is opening its huge garden, swimming pool, tennis court, and basketball court this summer. Children (4 to 14 years old) will enjoy their activities, including theatre, yoga, swimming, crafts, computer skills, soccer, beach and museum excursions, in French. They will be divided into two groups: “Chipmunks” (kindergarteners), and “Barracudas” (6 to 14 years old). The majority of the instructors are native French speakers. To be accepted to the program, the child’s last report card must be presented, along with a letter of recommendation. Children don’t have to attend the school to attend summer camp.
When: in Palms, Monday, June 17, to Friday, July 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; in Pacific Palisades, Monday, June 17, to Friday, June 28, from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Price: $500/week (except July 4, 4 days for $400)

2. France Exchange

Cooking, science, performances, good snacks, and more: For 30 years, the France Exchange School has offered an attractive summer camp program. This summer they’ll be focusing on the theme of tastes and colors. The program welcomes children ages 6 to 12; beginners in French are able to attend. Under the guidance of French instructors, they will start the day with songs, before improving their knowledge of French through activities such as cooking, games, and field trips.
When: Monday, June 3, to Thursday, June 27
Price: $365/week ($345/week for two weeks or more), for camp from 9am to 4pm.

3. L’Alliance Française de Los Angeles

Designed for young people ages 6 to 16, the one-week summer programs of the Alliance Française de Los Angeles offer an immersion in a totally French-speaking environment. French speakers of all levels are welcome to attend. The programme is divided into levels (ages 6 to 11, and ages 12 to 16), aiming at the linguistic objectives defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Under the supervision of experienced French-speaking teachers, students will participate in creative activities connected to the theme “share the planet,” and linguistic, artistic (crafts, cooking, theatre, etc.) and recreational (card and board games, role-playing, etc.) activities.
When: Monday, June 17, to Friday, August 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with optional extension to 3 p.m.)

4. Ecole Claire Fontaine

To stimulate your children’s curiosity in a multi-lingual environment, try the summer camp at Ecole Claire Fontaine in Venice Beach. Kids will choose their classes according to their interests. Children from 2 to 8 years old are welcome; they’re divided into two groups (2 to 4 years old, and 4 to 7 years old). This camp offers adjustable schedules to allow for children to come in only in the morning or a few days a week. Learning is done in French around various activities such as gardening, playing musical instruments, yoga, doing manual activities, dancing, cooking, and making beach outings. The bonus: organic and balanced meals and snacks will be prepared by the school’s chef.
When: Monday, July 8, to Friday, August 9, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (organic meals provided)
Price: $350/week of half-days, $700/week (8am to 6pm), plus a sign-up fee of $100.

5. Le Petit Gan de Sophie

Petit Gan de Sophie‘s summer camp is centered on artistic and sports activities, cooking classes and pool splashes. For kids from 18 months to 6 years old, the children are divided into age groups and receive playful instruction in French and Hebrew. Kids don’t have to be students at this school in order to attend, they will all be welcomed on the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles campuses.
When: Monday, July 1, to Friday, August 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with daycare hours available)

6. Le Lycée International de Los Angeles

This year, the Lycée International de Los Angeles is again offering their Ecole du Soleil summer school, where they’ll introduce children to the French language. The “Petite Ecole” (children in preschool and pre-K) and the “Grand Ecole” (children in kindergarten to 5th grade) will learn about topics like Africa, fairy tales, or the underwater world, through educational activities (match, music, visual arts, etc.) and outdoor activities.
When: Monday, June 17 to Friday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Price: $95/day, $260 for 3 days per week, or $375/week.

7. Le Jardin des enfants

Songs, theatre, painting, music: for three weeks, teachers and foreign language speakers will allow children (from 2 to 6 years old) to immerse themselves in the French language through art and science. Planned according to weekly themes, the interactive activities proposed by Le Jardin des enfants kindergarten will develop the imagination of the young participants. Children who are new to French are welcome.
When: Monday, July 1, to Thursday, July 18, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (camp is Monday to Thursday)
