5 Music Festivals in Montreal this Summer You Can’t Miss

Festivals are a local specialty, and there are enough in Montreal for them to be a signature of the city! Here’s a small selection of festivals coming to Montreal this summer to fill you up with good music and provide you an excuse to enjoy the sun while it’s around.

1. OSHEAGA MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL

August 3-5, 2018

This is THE festival not to be missed (which makes sense with its hefty price tag)! Every year since 2006, Jean-Drapeau Park has welcomed international stars to perform beside with local talent in front of over 100,000 music and visual arts enthusiasts. This year’s line-up includes Odesza, Arctic Monkeys, Lykke Li, LP, and Børns, to name a few.

2. MONTRÉAL INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

June 28 – July 7, 2018

Known as one of the most important jazz festivals in the world, the Montreal International Jazz Festival has been in full swing every July since 1980! Three thousand artists, more than 400 open-air concerts, and more than 2 million visitors: it’s a Montreal-must. The people who made the festival famous? Bob Dylan, Mile Davis, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Youssou N’Dour, among others. For this new edition, Alela Diane, Metronomy, Jain, Geoffroy, and many others will take the stage.

3. FRANCOFOLIES DE MONTRÉAL

June 7-17, 2018

Looking for a French music festival? Come in mid-June to the Quartier des Spectacles de Montréal. There, since 1989, Francophone artists have been performing on the outdoor stages of this cult festival every summer. Vanessa Paradis, Jane Birkin, Indochine, Patrick Bruel, Diane Tell, and Les Trois Chords have already sung in front of thousands of fans in the heart of the metropolis. Among the French artists featured this year: Grand Corps Malade, Pierre Lapointe, Hubert Lenoir, Catherine Ringer, Juliette Armanet, and many more.

4. MUTEK

August 22-26, 2018

Every year since 2000, the Mutek electronic music festival aims to combine electronic music and digital creativity. The concept is becoming more and more popular. More than 10,000 people come every year to groove to the sound of electro in the heart of the city. As for the artists, it’s only the best of the best.

5. PIKNIC ÉLECTRONIK

May 20 – September 30, 2018, every Sunday from 2pm to 9:30pm (canceled in the case of rain)
